Finishing Project
Subheading (Process title):
Prototype, Test
Descriptor (what was done):
finished the cover and had to put it all together. we had some problem in binding the wood together , we were suppose to get some canvas tape to finish it off nicely but couldn't find any. we ended up just using masking tape and painting. I don't like the tape that much but nothing we do about it now.
Binded are spreads and added our cover, now were just doing some last minute touch up to the illustrations.

Reflection what was achieved / what was found out / how it advanced the project):
completed the cover and binded
put everything together and just touching up some last minute stuff, pretty much done

and finished everything..

Finalising, Cover
Subheading (Process title):
Prototype
Descriptor (what was done):
we decided to finalise our project,
made some changes to text.
completed the illustrations
now we decided to have a cover just to finish off everything nicely, we wanted a hard cover like a kids book. We some how came up with the idea of thin wood as the cover and that we could also carve in the title and basic illustration (silhouette). we liked this idea a fit in perfectly with the idea, binding and the spread style.

Reflection what was achieved / what was found out / how it advanced the project):
we decided the final look of our are project and completed the illustrations, which was good to do now so we have some extra time to do touch up work later
choose a cover style, this helped advance are project so we could finish early

2nd Exchange
Subheading (Process title):
Exchange
Descriptor (what was done):
I found this exchange much more useful, just because I had a few spread to show them,
one thing that came up was that some of our text was a bit light and I had to add some more information so it was more clear to understand. Apart from that they really liked the idea of the kids storybook and the illustrations.

Reflection what was achieved / what was found out / how it advanced the project):
from this critique I went back over with my group to add more information/stats in some of the text. we are now happy with the text and think its more clear now .

Binding and Printing
Subheading (Process title):
Prototype
Descriptor (what was done):
we looked at binding again, in the end we chose quite a basic way of binding, with a whole puncher and string. We felt this way was best because it worked with the brown paper and and gave it a craft look/appealed to kids more.
Then we printed all are the text on brown paper so we could start doing the final illustrations.
we also decided what we were going to draw for each spread.
Reflection what was achieved / what was found out / how it advanced the project):
we decided on how were going to bind, this helped so we could start deciding on the cover.
printed the text, so we could start the illustrations.

Finalising text

Date: 6-8-15
Heading:
Finalising text
Subheading (Process title):
Prototype
Descriptor (what was done):
We finalised the texts and started to play around with the layout and how were going to present our work. we had difficult doing the type cause none of us were good a typography, we got some help from some type student which was very helpful.
Then we started printing out some mock up prints and started visualising are project. We liked how the layout and text looked to scale and decided to use it.
also started playing around with some binding techniques

Reflection what was achieved / what was found out / how it advanced the project):
We made a rough mock up project, this was helpful so we could see what it may look like.
Decided on our text/layout, which was relieving cause we struggled on it
This helped us move forward so we could start the next tasks

Kids Story Idea

Date: 31-7-15
Heading:
Kids Story Idea
Subheading (Process title):
Ideate
Descriptor (what was done):
we choose our final topic, which is, the negative effect of children being addicted to technology at a young age.
We explored different ways we can show this in terms of the brief, one of the ideas was a kids storybook

We all thought the idea of a kids book layout was great and we should explore more into it.
at first we wanted to do watercolor but then found out it had to black and white, and thought watercolor black and white did not look that good, we started playing around with etching. in the end Ben came up with the style of black and white charcoal on brown paper in the end. the example he showed us was amazing and instantly decided on that style.

Reflection what was achieved / what was found out / how it advanced the project):
we came up with our style of illustration and how we wanted to show our project, this help advance our project cause then we could focus more on the text and get the sorted. we found out we cant do black and white watercolor good.

1st exchange

Date: 24-7-15
Heading:
1st exchange
Subheading (Process title):
Exchange
Descriptor (what was done):
in the first exchange we shared all ours briefs across the different areas; VCD, fashion and industrial. then we discussed how different the briefs were then talked about are own topics. I got some good feedback in what I should research next and how interesting my topic is and the many ways I can go with it.

Reflection what was achieved / what was found out / how it advanced the project):
from talking to the other VCD member in the group I got a better understating of the brief. This helped in moving the project forward because I could contribute more to the group. also i got some pointers in which direction I could head and what i should research next.
